'A time capsule of Victorian Family life'
This is the house where David Herbert Richards Lawrence was born in 1885, and the first of the Lawrence family's four Eastwood homes. Through a guided tour you will be able to learn about his family life and the type of working class home and mining community that shaped his formative years.

Informative friendly guides will lead you through the rooms where all the family would live, as well as the communal washhouse where the Victorian housewife would spend 'the hardest day of the week'.
There is a DVD room, with a short programme on D.H. Lawrence and an exhibition room, displaying some of his original watercolours and some personal items, including our newest collection item, D.H. Lawrence's headstone.

Our well-stocked museum gift shop offers a varied selection of gifts, books and souvenirs, including traditional Victorian games and books by and about the world famous writer.
Donating to the Museum
The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum welcomes offers of loans and donations to its collection, with a focus on Lawrence related objects and general social history artifacts dated between c.1875 and c.1912. Please contact our Museum and Collections Officers.
Directions:
Leave the hotel by the drive and follow the road back into Awsworth Village, turn right at the end of the road (The Donkey Piece) and follow the road until you reach a small island take the second exit from the island and go straight on to the next island take the second exit, The Ikea retail park should be on your left at the next island take the second exit this will take you through the village of Giltbrook.
Carry on up the hill to “Hill Top” you are now on the main road through Eastwood, stay on this road through the town centre, Keep an eye out for the Iceland Store on your right then take the second right after the store (There is a Bank on the corner) The D.H. Lawrence Birthplace Museum is on your left with a car park just before it on your right.
